Heavy Metal

Heavy Metal

Invisible impurities? We can tell you what’s really there.

Heavy metals are naturally occurring metallic elements that have a relatively high density. Heavy metals are mined from the Earth’s crust and used in multiple industrial and agricultural applications. Improper application of these metals has led to environmental contamination and potential exposure sources for people, which makes them of concern when they are contained within products intended for consumption or skin application.

While it’s logical to think that a specific product does not involve the use of heavy metals and therefore does not contain them, all raw materials–whether mined or grown–have the potential to contain trace amounts of these elements. This is due to organic materials, such as plants, extracting materials from the surrounding soil, including nutrients as well as potential contaminants such as heavy metals. Products are made up of several components, with each typically sourced from a different region of the Earth, sometimes with little-or-no industrial oversight. It is critical that not only are your raw materials checked for contamination, but the cumulative addition of the raw materials doesn’t produce an undesirable concentration within your final product.
